Getting started

How long does it take to set up?

None, if you don’t want it to. Install it and your next tab has Duesday on it — empty, but working. Type a bill in and it starts being useful.

If you’d rather get it all in at once, Guided setup asks short questions about your bills and spending. Skip any of them with one tap, leave whenever you like, and it remembers where you were.

How do I get it onto another computer?

Sign in there with the same email. Install the extension, or open the web app in any browser, and everything is already there.

Can I get it on my phone?

Available now: the Chrome extension, and the web app in any browser on a computer. Coming later: apps for iPhone and Android. With your Duesday account, a new phone signs in and everything is already there.

The web app does open in a phone’s browser, but it’s made for a computer screen, so on a phone it’s small. The phone apps are the real answer.

What does it cost?

Everything personal is free. Not a trial, not a limited tier, not a version with the good parts locked.

The phone apps will work the same way: everything personal is free, and Business is the one paid part. Pricing has the details.

Your new tab

Chrome asked if this is the new tab page I expected.

That is Chrome checking that you meant to install something that changes your new tab. You did — that is what Duesday is. Choose to keep it, and Duesday opens every time you open a tab.

If you choose to change it back, Chrome switches Duesday off altogether: the new tab, the reminders and the count on the toolbar all stop. Nothing is deleted. To turn it on again, open Chrome’s menu, go to Extensions, and switch Duesday back on.

Your search engine is not touched either way. The search box on the new tab sends what you type to whichever engine you already use.

I opened a tab to search for something, not to look at this.

There is a search box at the top of the page. Type and press enter — it goes to whatever search engine you already use. Type something that looks like an address and it opens that instead.

Ctrl+L — ⌘L on a Mac — still puts you in the browser's own address bar if you prefer it.

Signing in and your account

I didn’t get my sign-in code.

Look in your spam or junk folder first; a new sender often lands there. It comes from [email protected], so marking it not spam helps the next one arrive. Check the email address is spelled right, wait a minute, then ask for a new code. Each code works once, and only for a short while.

Where is my stuff?

In your Duesday account, and on each device you sign in on so it works offline. A change on one device shows up on the others within a minute, or as soon as you switch back to Duesday. The privacy policy says exactly what’s kept and where.

How do I sign out, or delete my account?

Both are in Manage data. Sign out removes your information from that device and keeps it in your account. Delete my account removes the account and everything in it, everywhere; you type DELETE to confirm, because it can’t be undone. Save a copy first if you might want any of it.

Can’t sign in to do it? Email [email protected] from the address on the account.

How do I save a copy, or restore one?

Manage data → Save a copy gives you one file of everything, to keep for yourself. Automatic backup can save one to your Downloads folder every day. Restore a copy reads one back, and replaces what’s there rather than mixing the two.

Why won’t it connect to my bank?

Because then it would need your bank login, somewhere to keep it, and a good reason for you to trust both of those. Duesday asks what your bills are once and then remembers.

Worse first ten minutes. Better everything after.

When something’s not right

My reminders aren’t showing up.

Check notifications are allowed for the extension in your browser settings. Bills on autopay don’t notify — there’s nothing to do about them. And browsers hold alarms while they’re closed, so one might arrive when you next open up.

It’s showing the weather for the wrong town.

There are a lot of places with the same name. Search again and pick from the list — adding the state narrows it fast. Turning the weather off forgets the location entirely.

Using Duesday

What do the little marks mean?

Every one of these says what it is when you hover it. Here’s the whole list in one place.

A day shows three marks at most, in one row: money owed, a credit account, and a single importance mark. If four things are on it, the highest importance wins.

Ideas and problems

I thought of something it should do.

Send it. Most of what’s good in here came from somebody using it on a real morning and noticing something wrong.

I found a security problem.

Email [email protected] with security in the subject. Security reports go to the front of the line, and we aim to reply the same day.

Still stuck? Email [email protected] and we’ll help you sort it out.
